Growing up, Alex dreamed of being a basketball player. But, as he fell in love with figure skating, he teamed up with his younger sister, Maia Shibutani, to pursue ice dancing instead. Since taking their family connection to the ice in 2004, the two – also known as the Shib Sibs – medaled at every U.S. Championships they competed in, but it didn’t come without its obstacles. The Shibutani family relocated from the northeast to Colorado Springs to Michigan to find the best training environment for their needs. This – combined with all of the hard work and dedication to their creative process – has led to becoming two-time Olympians, two-time Olympic bronze medalists (Team Event and individual event), two-time U.S. champions and three-time World medalists.
